This month marks my third anniversary of working f This month marks my third anniversary of working for myself. While I feel celebratory, I also  feel it's important to mention the more challenging times. It can be easy to provide a pretty picture but I think a more balanced depiction allows us all to acknowledge our own and each other's humanity. It's not always hammocks and poolside cocktails.

It's easy to look at social media to escape, only to feel more lonely, anxious, and depressed about the world on fire in so many ways. It's easy to look at other people's feeds and think their lives are all rainbows and glitter. Ok, some of y'all are definitely all rainbows and glitter, but you know what I'm taking about. I have barely participated in social media in the past year to reset how I want to engage. Nothing beats connections in real life in real time. It's not easy making deep friendships as an adult but it is easy feeling alone in that problem.
Over the past year I've worked harder than ever before yet struggled with imposter syndrome, feeling lazy, and being unproductive by capitalistic standards. It's hard to just pause and let myself relax when I have to wear all the hats: designers, marketer, bookkeeper, accountant, developer, researcher, project manager... I've definitely learned some new boundaries the hard way. Work life balance is slippery when you have no where to be, no one to hold you accountable, self-imposed deadlines, and no one to pick up the slack when you are sick, depressed, burnt out, or have personal things to take care of. Plus we've all got things we're working on and general life stressors that come and go but are rarely talked about on social media (or in any way). More in comments...
